Cats all class as Bulldogs suffer thrashing
Syndicated on Sun, 15/08.2010Western Bulldogs bore the brunt of Geelong's last-start shock loss to Collingwood as the Cats piled on 25 goals to smash their top four rivals by 101 points at Docklands stadium on Saturday night.
Stunned by the Pies' intensity in their round 19 blockbuster, the Cats bounced back in fine fashion and, after pounding the Dogs for 10 goals in the second quarter, cruised to a 25.11 (161) to 9.6 (60) win.
Geelong has therefore kept alive its narrow chances of hauling in the Magpies to claim the minor premiership, but requires Collingwood to slip in the final two rounds while winning its remaining clashes with Carlton and West Coast.
With the Cats joining the Pies as big winners in this round it appears the top two sides have sent out a clear message that the 2010 flag will be a head-to-head battle between them at the end of September.
On this evidence the fourth-placed Bulldogs will be unable to mount any meaningful challenge in September, Rodney Eade's side simply crumbling under the tackling pressure and relentless run of Geelong's famed midfield.
It was one of those vintage Cats displays where every one of their stars came together with outstanding individual performances and made a mockery of the Bulldogs' top-four billing.
