Tips Of The Dreamteam Trade

By Joseph Hess on Wed, 23/02.2011

Dreamteam - it's back! I love fantasy footy - you could say I'm a fanatic. I stayed up until midnight for the opening of Dreamteam and had my team already planned out months ago thanks to the FanFooty planner. I am now unleashing my team onto TheBigTip for the rest of the world to bask in its glory (touch wood no one gets injured before Round 1). This is my preliminary team but as you know there will be a ton of changes before Round 1.

Backline
Goddard, Deledio and Gibbs seem to be in everyone's team. You always need reliable scorers in defence and not overload your midfield. An even spread over the ground is what is required. Broughton and Grimes both had injuries last year but are well known high scorers. Otten is coming off a big injury and is cheap as chips. He scored well in the NAB Cup and can only improve this season. Heppell is a future superstar for Essendon. I watched him in the NAB Cup and he looks the goods, fitting right into the Bomber line-up. The reserves will all play in 2011 and are handy cash cows later in the season.

Midfield
Swan is a must if you want to win in your Dreamteam league and get a decent ranking. Montagna and Bartel were consistent scorers for me last year, so they have my personal tick of approval. Judd is simply a freak, an absolute Gun. Rumour has it he has injured his heel and groin in the pre-season but he should be fine according to an interview on Channel 10. As a North Melbourne supporter I always liked Harris and whenever I had the chance to meet him personally, he was a top bloke. On the Dreamtime side of it, he is cheap and a ball magnet. Ablett and Swallow will get the tags whilst Harris runs free. With Mzungu, Fremantle have picked up a bargain from the WAFL. After 4 touches in 80 seconds in his first NAB Cup match, expect big things from this kid. Reserves are Atley, Wallis, Swallow who all are touted superstars in the making.

Ruck
Dean Cox, The Big Cox (sorry I just had to say it). During the pre-season, he has been tearing up the track and the NAB Cup. I expect him to return to his Dreamteam capabilities this year and dominate, as he has done in the past. Seaby was injured last year but played well in the recent NAB Cup games. I might downgrade him to Zac Smith from Gold Coast and upgrade Petrie to Darren Jolly. Decisions, decisions! Mature aged Derickxx looked the goods in the NAB Cup for the Tigers as well.

Forward
Colin Sylvia looks ready to burst and have a Brownlow year in 2011. Melbourne have a very good draw and could easily make top 4 if Sylvia can let it rip. Some say that with Brent Harvey, at 32, you shouldn't pick the old guys because their bones are becoming brittle but this champion just keeps getting better. He was in the top ten for disposals last season. For Nick Riewoldt, you can make fun of him for his off-field issues but I believe that he is going to launch and reach another level in 2011. Matthew Pavlich and Fremantle are going to go places in 2011. Rioli is going to play in the midfield mostly this year it seems, so he is going to rack up some points, and for a forward in Dreamteam, that's always handy. He is all class and has shown he can be a real contributor. Krakour, everyone's got him and he is cheap. He'll play most games and is a good cash cow. Callinan is the James Podsiadly of 2011. The Adelaide rookie will play Round 1 and have some influence. Richardson, Matera and Smith all showed in the NAB Cup they can play and score high Dreamteam wise.

There you have it folks, that’s my team. Feel free to comment below but as you all know experience Dreamteamers know, it will change come Round 1. Enjoy your fantasy footy for 2011!
