Dream Team vs. Supercoach | Thebigtip

Remember the days when 2000 was the number? The 2000 Sydney Olympics, Harry Potter's Nimbus 2000 and walking to school or work on Monday with a smile when you battled it out from Friday to Sunday to score 2000 in Dream Team. Now the 30 minute unfold of your weekend Dream Team weekend is interrupted by something worse than Eric the Eel's lap times and Voldermort.

"I scored 2000 in SuperCoach this week."

Yes we've all heard it before and we will all hear it again. But the truth is, us Dream Teamers don't care about your 'gimmie an extra 200 points for trying' game. In my opinion, Dream Team is the real thing and Supercoach is just a fantasy so let's compare.

Gary Ablett scored 156 in Dream Team this week which means he was sensational - probably a +40 disposal game with a few goals. In Supercoach land, he scored 198. 198?! WHAT ARE YOU JOKING?! Only one person in Champion Data history has scored over 198 in Dream Team and that's Gary Ablett... Senior. He didn't just have a sensational week, he had 25 kicks and like a great full foward, 0 handballs, 12 marks, 14 goals, 7 behinds, 2 tackles, 1 free against and 3 frees For which comes to 216. Now are you telling me that Gary Ablett had to slug it out and kick 14 damn goals in Dream Team just to beat his son's effort for the Suns just by 18 points? Talk about disrespecting your elders.

Today was the first time I've ever looked at the Supercoach point scoring. 18 ways to score could be said as 'over the top' or simply a 'more detailed' analysis of fantasy AFL. So the big differences are the uses of effectiveness and accuracy in Supercoach which determines whether you get 4 points, 0 points or -8 points for a kick. -8 points! Buddy Franklin can't give away enough careless free kicks to rack up minus -8! It would have been better if the West Coast Eagles of 2010 didn't actually play with the amount of clangers they make, no naming any names (cough, cough Chris Masten, cough, cough, Brad Ebert). Although Supercoach has speciality players because of their enormous efficiency rate and pin point passing.

There are many differences within both codes. Which ever you choose is just up to which one you perform better in. 2000 in Dream Team is a landmark, while 2000 in Supercoach is just another number. After pondering around on both, there were many pluses and minuses in both fantasies. Although, something sticks out more than Andrew Demetriou's nose, and that is that AFL fantasy footy is the best out there. Oh, and Brendan Goddard is doing crap in both.
