The Ins and Outs of the St. Kilda Scandal | Thebigtip

As various news outlets have reported around the clock for the past day, superstar captain of the St. Kilda Football Club Nick Riewoldt and skilled on-baller Nick Dal Santo have been embroiled in the middle of a nude photos scandal. Nineteen year old model Kim Duthie, an alleged friend of Riewoldt though Riewoldt denies knowing her, and Dal Santo's teammate Sam Gilbert, released the images of the star Saints in provocative positions on her Facebook page.

In a conference scheduled by Riewoldt himself he denied knowing anything about the existence of the photographs.

"The photograph was taken over twelve months ago in Miami by a teammate, Sam Gilbert. I asked Sam to delete the photo and it was my understanding that it was deleted.

"To infer that I would stand there and pose for a photograph naked knowing that it was going to be kept is just absolute garbage and offensive that people would think that."

The point that Riewoldt is trying to argue is that it is not his fault that the images have surfaced as he believed them to be deleted. However, he is not to play the innocent role in this situation. It seems as though he is dishing the issue off onto Sam Gilbert's shoulders, as Gilbert was allegedly the one who didn't dispose of the images yet is supposedly the source of the images. Do Riewoldt and Dal Santo deserve to have this happen to them? Not at all but it's an issue that could have easily have been avoided with any semblance of common sense.

Players of the AFL need to finally realise that what they do, no matter when during their career,  will be scrutinised. The fact of the matter is that they are not regular human beings as soon as they pull on the guernsey for the first time. We hear it time and time again but the players never seem to learn.

With that said, what Kim Duthie is doing to these players is inhumane. Sure, these people are celebrities, but that doesn't mean that using their own star status against them is just. She knew before she released the images that there would be a huge backlash, and to use that as a weapon against Riewoldt and Dal Santo is deceptive, cruel and sickening.

Let's not forget that Duthie also claimed that she had become pregnant with twins to a St. Kilda player before this year's season. Sounds to me like she has a chip on her shoulder and has everything that's coming to her.

It is believed that Duthie's actions are inspired by the way she was treated by the players in question as well as one of their managers. In a radio interview with radio station 3AW, she confirmed that she had more images saved for a rainy day.

"I have twenty-one (images) all together, three of them are of different Saints players and the rest are from different AFL clubs."

Every sign that Kim Duthie has given leads to a simple conclusion - she wants payback and attention. That's it. Her actions are a reflection of her immaturity. If she feels that it is her duty to get revenge on the players in question instead of being rational  and contacting the right people, instead of throwing everything in the air and acting out like a spoiled brat, then best of luck to her. She is only digging her own hole deeper. Not many people out there are interested in hiring someone so deceptive, so her modelling career might be on the skids. What company will want to have a model that gives a negative impression everytime they are viewed advertising their product?

As for Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo, if you're stupid enough to stand there and have a mate take nude pictures of you, you need to be ready to suffer the concequences of your actions. A fire doesn't start without a spark. As a role model, not only to society but to your football club, you need to be smarter with your actions. By all means, have fun in your spare time, but it's not hard to have fun and still be aware of what you're doing.
