Boyd to win brownlow
By Victoria Jarvis on Wed, 08/09.2010Dane Swan may be the 2010 AFL MVP but don't go laying big bucks on the Magpie for the Brownlow Medal.
Why do I say this? Because my money is on Matthew Boyd to take the medal nicknamed 'Charlie' home for the night.
I'll be the first to admit that Dane Swan has had an incredible season, he continues to lead the stats in disposals and has been an integral member of the Collingwood team. Swan's recognition as the ALF MVP does no more than what winning the Copeland Trophy has done for for him over the past 2 years, it doesn't earn enough Brownlow votes.
When it comes to dishing out theCollingwood votes you can't discount the year that Scott Pendlebury and Alan Didak have had. Without these players Swan wouldn't have revceived the AFL MVP or the adulation of the media. At the 2009 Brownlow Pendlebury totalled 13 votes, Didak 12 votes and Swan 12 votes. They are all great players - with Dane Swan looking the stand out from public opinion but you would be a fool if you ignored the fact that they will take votes off each other.
Over the last 3 years Matthew Boyd. has been a Bulldog on the rise. At the 2008 Brownlow Boyd totalled 12 votes, in 2009 he totalled 14 votes and he has had his best season yet with career highs is disposals, goals, kicks, tackles and hitouts. He played 21 games this season and consistently racked up the stats. Most importantly some of his best stats have come when the Bulldogs have played against Collingwood leading the individual stats on the day and leaving his mark for the umpires to sit up and take notice.
With Barry Hall and Brian Lake the obvious Western Bulldogs that Boyd will be competing for votes with it is easily argued that no umpire will be looking to give Barry Hall votes and I can't remember the last time a defender was rewarded,
Footscray/Western Bulldogs have a strong history of securing the goods that don't involve the actual Premiership. Players from the club have received the Brownlow on 10 occassions (plus Chris Grant once polled top votes but was unfortunately ineligible), showing that you don't have to be a premiership star to take Charlie home.
The last time an individual from Collingwood was awarded the Brownlow was 30 years ago and in all honesty who enjoys listening to Collingwood Supporters gloat about anything?
Vote 3 Matthew Boyd

We shall see Victoria, we
We shall see Victoria, we shall see...I so love everyone putting in so much effort to hate Collingwood and all their loyal supporters.
I certainly dont hate any clubs, not worth the effort really......
Just to let you all know I
Just to let you all know I have put my money where my mouth is. If Boyd wins or places tonight I won't be quitting my job anytime soon - but at 101:1 I'll still be having a great day!
