Brownlow Best Bets

By Wallsy- Editor in Chief on Wed, 15/09.2010

Who's your club's most likely Brownlow leader?

For what it's worth I'll be having one huge multi on the following 16 players to be the highest individual Brownlow pollers at each club;

Adelaide- What a tough one to start with. An inconsistent year saw only 9 wins from the pre-season fancy. So who stood out for the Crows? Scott Thompson wil poll a handful of votes as will youngster Richard Douglas. But for me, retired veteran Simon Goodwin will head the Adelaide list with less than 10 votes.

Brisbane- After 4 rounds the Lions sat atop the AFL ladder, undefeated. From there it turned ugly with only 3 wins from their remaining 18 games. Captain Jonathan Brown will win the Brisbane count with between 12 and 15 votes. Gold Coast bound Michael Rischitelli and consistent vote getter Simon Black will be the only other multiple pollers.

Carlton- I'll put my house on Captain Chris Judd leading the mighty Blues on Brownlow night as he does week in week out. So short however, unfortunately the odds would return little more than a new porch light. Miles behind the Juddster's 20 votes will be excitement machines Eddie Betts & Jeff Garlett and number 1 pick Marc Murphy.

Chris Judd

Collingwood- I'm confident that Dane Swan is the Brownlow winner this year. With potential to crack 30 votes, his biggest threat coming from within is Scott Pendlebury who may well poll 20 votes and finish top 5 overall. Hopefully this individual honour is sufficient celebration for Pie fans to enjoy in 2010.

Essendon- With no star vote catchers at Bomberland, I'm looking for ball magnet and captain Jobe Watson to lead their count with the dark horse being 'Inspector Gadget' veteran Dustin Fletcher. Watson's 10-12 votes is where I'll have my money though.

Fremantle- Tough one to split here. I have man giant Aaron Sandilands and first year rookie Michael Barlow both polling 18-20 votes. My only concern maybe, is how long did it take the umpires to rcognise VFL mature age recruit Barlow? So I'll take Sandilands with 20 votes.

Geelong- Great teams win votes and thus the Cats will have 4 players poll almost 80 votes between them. Twice as many votes as some clubs' totals. Gary Ablett, Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel and Paul Chapman will be this leading quartet and Ablett will be the best of them all with 25 votes and runner up to Swan in the medal.

Hawthorn- With Buddy ineligible again, he can't actually win the medal. But he will poll well and pick up more than a dozen votes. These votes however will be a long way from the 20 votes won by hardman and the Hawks spiritual leader Luke Hodge.

Kangaroos- Although brilliant in 2010, unfortunately Brady Rawlings won't poll highly in his career best season. Andrew Swallow is a chance for his club's best and fairest, but won't be able to top the 18 votes that proven vote getter Brent Harvey will poll in the Monday night count.

North's Brent Harvey.
