The Decision | Thebigtip

One of the most talked about topics in sport has finally found a conclusion.  LeBron James has made his decision.  He has set up his future.  He has selected his new team.  Meet LeBron James, of the Miami Heat.

Cleveland is in mourning.  They have lost their favourite son, and in a despicable manner at that.  The ego of LeBron James is so big, he thought it necessary to have a one hour television show The Decision, to announce his 15 second decision.  Like millions of others, I got sucked in and watched it.
 
I really do respect LeBron James as a player, but as a person, my respect just took a dive.  Why?  Because in The Decision he made it clear that only the team he chose knew his decision.  It suddenly became some sort of reality TV show, like The Bachelor….”I choose….”.
 
This meant Cleveland, New York, New Jersey, LA Clippers and Chicago had to wait like everyone else to find out.  They had to wait half an hour whiles he discussed the ins and outs of the decision.  He drummed up the suspense for his own stature.  Like he was THE most important person in the world, and we would wait for him.  Yes, selfish, but it worked, we watched, hanging on his every word!  It was tedious, but we did it.  Well done LeBron.
 
The saddest part was that Cleveland had to find out this way.  The team that nurtured him from high school, and developed him into the player he is today, had to wait like everyone else.  No loyalty.  No respect.  They were one of us, bystanders.
 
Cleveland are understandably devastated.  Their own flesh and blood has spurned them for a chance to win a ring.  This is despite winning 61 and 68 games in his last two seasons in Cleveland.  They were arguably the best team in the league up until the playoffs this season.  One wonders if three massive ego’s (Wade, Bosh and James) on the one team will work?  Will Miami Heat be a team of champions, as well as a champion team?  So often that is not the case.  How will Miami be able to afford a fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh player under a salary cap bursting at the seams?  It’s not a game of NBA JAM!
 
LeBron has left Cleveland with nothing.  He was their heart and soul, and he has left for a donut.  How is that for respect?  He could have at least done a sign-and-trade, but no, it’s not about Cleveland, or anyone else.  Miami will have to shed players to fit him in the cap, the least he could have done was ensure those players go to Cleveland.
 
I have followed Lebron James throughout his career.  He is an exciting player to watch, and a champion.  He may well be one of the best players the NBA has ever seen.  Miami will definitely be an exciting team to watch next season, as James teams up with Wade and Bosh.  But if Cleveland completely fall to pieces because of it, that is really not a good thing for the NBA?  A city starved of sporting success plunges into uncertain times, whilst three superstars hang out sipping pina colada’s on the Florida sand.
