Does LeBron regret his decision?
By Daniel Eade on Tue, 20/07.2010It has been two weeks since LeBron James announced that he was taking his talents to South Beach and signing with the Miami Heat. The outpouring of disappointment from Cleveland Cavaliers fans, Charles Barkley, and now Michael Jordan’s comments that he would never have done it, begs the question, does LeBron James regret his decision?
According to James’ own confession, he didn’t make his mind up until the morning of the announcement, going back and forth between teams in his mind and changing his mind during his sleep. So if that is true, and James in all honesty didn’t make up his mind until 12 hours before his ESPN special, “The Decisionâ€, just how comfortable was James with his choice?
If “The Decision†had have been aired one night earlier, or one night later, would James be now signed with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets or still with the Cleveland Cavaliers?
Between James and his entourage, did anyone ever ask the question, how will the legends of yesterday see this decision? How will neutral basketball fans react to this? It was obvious that Cavs fans would feel like their hearts had been ripped out, although James seemed to be caught off guard when he saw pictures of his singlet been burned.
What James has done is turn his back on the chance to be forever debated as the greatest ever with Michael Jordan. That debate is done with for all eternity.
If James wins 7, 8, 9 rings, not only will he have one less than Dwyane Wade, he did not do it with his own team like Jordan had done through the 90’s. People will forever say that James took the easy way out, the easy option. That stopped any chance from his being the greatest of all time.
To debate and compare who was better, Jordan or James, would be something that basketball fans would have lived for. For example, if James had have stayed in Cleveland and won three rings, people would say that James’ three rings were harder to get than Jordan’s six. It would be a debate, but it is now dead. In the space of five seconds, James became someone who was so loved into public enemy number one, in the process turning haters of Kobe Bryant around to gasp, that for all his perceived arrogance and troubles of the past, Bryant never quit the LA Lakers. With all the negativity coming his way, something that through his whole life he has never received, how is James feeling about his decision weeks later? Does James care that people now refer to him as Robin or Prince James? Does James realize that he has changed the status of his legacy? Does James feel that the decision he made was correct, despite what Jordan and Barkley have said? Does James regret his decision? While James becomes the brunt of jokes from Bill Simmons to Steve Carell, is he aware of the damage he has self inflicted on his own brand? I feel the biggest losers in all of this are basketball fans who want to see the best compete against one another, those who want to see James and Wade go against each other, not high-five one another with ‘Heat’ across their chests. We will never see a Kobe v LeBron finals series where both players are the man. That sucks. We will never see James fulfil his destiny and bring Cleveland their first championship since the age of the dinosaurs. And while James is left to count his money, do you think he cares?

Oh he definitely cares about
Oh he definitely cares about this. And the more and more I hear about it, I think this wasn't entirely his decision, but that of the people around him.
And with Michael Jordan now weighing in on the debate, this decision will become a millstone around his neck... regardless of the jewelery obtained from it.
But regret? We'll never know...
People fail to realize that
People fail to realize that Scottie Pipen who played with Jordan (remember him) is one of the NBA's top 50 all time players
What if LeBron stayed in
What if LeBron stayed in Cleavland and never won a championship? What if he went through year after year of dissapointment due to lack of support, what if he missed his opportunity to be part of a chamoinship winning franchise, what if my aunty had bollocks she'd be my uncle.... could LeBron have won championships if he stayed in Cleavland? Maybe. Maybe not, who knows? LeBron is his own person and has his own destiny, just because he's not making the same decisions as some of the previous greats it doesn't mean you can rule him out of the greatest player of all time debate, wait till the end of his career then make that judgement. The money doesn't matter, he should play where he's happy and enjoying bball, thats when you'll see the best of him.
"People fail to realize that
"People fail to realize that Scottie Pipen who played with Jordan (remember him) is one of the NBA's top 50 all time players"
Absolutely! Because Jordan left the Bulls to play with Pippen! O... wait a sec...
And Anonymous! Wow... you really get around - I see you post, like... EVERYWHERE!
But... really?
"LeBron is his own person and has his own destiny, just because he's not making the same decisions as some of the previous greats it doesn't mean you can rule him out of the greatest player of all time debate"
Ummm... no. We're done with that conversation.
Ummmm Who's done with that
Ummmm Who's done with that debate....U?.... oh ok we'll all stop talking about it then Don, haha.
I'm not saying that he is the greatest player nor will he ever be and if you feel that way STOP comparing him to people like Jordan and get over it but at least wait until the end of his career. Although seeing you like the Jordan comaprison Jordan didn't start winning his championships untill his late twenties anyway. But when he's lying on a Miami beach surrounded by 20 latino honyez sipping pina coladas in the off season after winning MVP (again) and a championship. Somehow I don't think there will be a little vioce inside his head sayin "Dam I wish I had of stayed in Cleavland, where the sun doesn't shine and Delonte west could still be banging my mum"
Has he ever said he wants to be the greatest of all time? I haven't heard him say it... All he's said is that he wants to win championships. Stay in Clevland and that won't happen, go to Miami and it probably will. Bit of a no brainer really.
And here's a name to keep you happy
Jo.
