I hate Collingwood. I don’t deny it and after seeing them play recently, I am proud of it. Having said that, I recently watched a Collingwood game on TV and found myself cheering for every goal that Scott Pendlebury kicked! Why? Well that’s an easy question to answer. I had Pendlebury as my Dream Team captain and my opponent had Dane Swan.

Most recently, there has been talk of the ABC cutting back on their arts and sports coverage. If this happens, I can see the demise of the now humble state footy league.

You, or someone you know, is a Weekend Warrior. The men and women who, five days a week, are respectable members of the community. However, Saturday comes and this all changes. They swap their suits and coffees for skins and Powerade. They stuff down Weetbixs and Subway preparing for the battle ahead, regardless of grade, sport, or skill level.

I was rubbing my hands together when I heard of the latest scandal rocking the AFL as I sat down to watch some footy on a calm Saturday night. The Australian Football League is a competition which has endured numerous major events since the competition's inception. Like most sports, Australian Rules was part of the discrimination of dark-skinned people that plagued the world during the 20th century. Although the triumph of equal rights for both coloured and white people is a huge advancement in both sport and society, another social issue has made its way into the AFL.
