Aussie fan slump = Aussie form slump

By Victoria Jarvis on Sun, 05/12.2010

Friday 3 December 2010, Adelaide - After a morning full of meetings and a work Christmas Lunch you could say I was more than happy to be heading to the cricket for the afternoon.  The Sun was shining, there was hardly a cloud in the sky  as I walked down King William Street where the bridge takes you over the River Torrens and leads you to the Adelaide Oval.

I wasn't ready for what I was about to see when I walked through the gates and entered Adelaide Oval.  English Flags draped over  every available space, members of the Barmy Army everywhere and the signing, the very bad singing.  After the 43rd rendition of "we all live in a convict colony" my patience was lost and the anti-English sentiment started to boil over.  The Barmy Army had invaded Adelaide Oval and taken the prime real estate of the luscious green grassy hill.

Were there even any Australian Supporters at the ground?  Where were the Australian Flags and the inflatable Kangaroos?  The only question I could answer was 'where were the members?' the fortunate few that have memberships and then either don't bother using them or spend the entire day in the bar around the back....but I've leave that gripe to another day and another story.

Switching my attention to the middle of the ground didn't help either.  The English fielding placements were spot on all day, Australia still had Marcus North in the batting line up (by the way. congrats on finally making it to double figures), and our hopes were riding on a partnership between Hussey and Haddin.  This scenario felt very similar to the Adelaide Test exactly one year ago when the West Indies form was under a grey cloud,  there was no confidence in the bowling line up and the batting relied on one or two players making the big scores one year earlier.  How the tides have turned.  We are all going to have our opinion on what's going on with the Australian Test Team make your view heard in the comments below.  I say for the Boxing Day Test put the top order on notice, send Marcus North back to the Sheffeild Shield and bring in Cameron White, it will take a Victorian to save this series at the MCG.

Turning back to the crowd I see a lonely Australian Flag laying limp on the ground as there's another wicket and Adelaide Oval explodes with cheers and the singing starts again..........

What is the purpose of this story you may ask - I will be at the cricket on Boxing Day and I am calling on everyone out there that has tickets to bring out their Aussie Flags, bring out the inflatable Skippy, body paint, temporary tattoos.  Whatever it takes to ensure what happened at the Adelaide Oval on Friday the 3 December never happens again.
