Cricketers face mafia extortion threats

The players at the centre of the match-fixing allegations surrounding the fourth Test against England at Lord's may be the subject of extortion threats, former Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson.

Pakistan captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif have been implicated in the allegations after self-confessed match-fixer Mazhar Majeed told News of the World that the pacemen deliberately bowled no-balls to order on the opening day of the Test.

Majeed, as a result of the News of the World report, was arrested and bailed to reappear in court on charges of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers. Two other men and a woman have subsequently been arrested in connection with the spot-fixing allegations, UK media have reported.
