Sourced at Heraldsun: SOCCEROOS midfielder David Carney has bolstered Australia's dwindling stocks in the English Premier League with a move to battlers Blackpool.

Carney made a last-minute move from Dutch champions FC Twente only minutes before the transfer window closed in England 3am on Wednesday Melbhourne time.

The 26-year-old moved to the Tangerines strip on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Australian numbers in the English top-flight have thinned in recent years with Everton's Tim Cahill the only regular starter in the opening three rounds this season.

Brett Emerton has had to be happy making appearances off the bench for Blackburn while Mark Schwarzer's back injury and transfer speculation has kept him out of action for Fulham.

Blackpool secretary Matt Williams said his club had only just got paperwork for Carney done in time.
