Revision: Week 2 A-League Preview

The conclusion of the first weekend of action in any sport normally leads to fans and ‘experts’ alike scrambling to revise their predictions. Sometimes it can lead to a serious egg on face situation as people try to overcompensate, however here are five of my observations from Week 1 that won’t quite fit into the match previews this week.

1) Perhaps it’s just my dislike of the colour pink, but the fluro pink top that Matt Ryan has the unfortunate distinction of wearing throughout the season is going right into my Hall of Fame for worst goalkeeper tops ever. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea? I turned on the TV set and almost lost my eyesight from the blinding brightness of it all.

2) There was a surprising lack of complete bandwagon supporters at the Victory-Sydney game on Saturday night. The expectation was to be bombarded with 90 minutes of Kewell talk with an occasional question asking who the pale midget was playing out wide, but instead it was a fairly knowledgeable crowd. Pleasantly surprising.

3) Because I feel the need to be open about these things, 15 minutes into the Perth-Adelaide game, I made a note saying that Mehmet looked very average so far and he might not offer too much. It wasn’t one of my finer notes.

4) After watching Issey Nakajima-Farran for the first time against the Mariners, I found myself pondering the following; If I ever wondered what a person with Canadian and Japanese heritage would look like, surely this man is the perfect template. It just makes so much sense.

5) Were there more Wellington injuries than Gold Coast fans at the game on Sunday?
