Would I want to read this if I hadn't written it?

You need a HOOK

No writer is guaranteed an audience, especially on the Internet.
Web readers are notoriously prone to Attention Deficit Disorder. If you’re going to build a fan base, you have to give people a reason to stick around.

What does that mean? In a practical sense, it means you’ve got to write with a purpose. Readers are engaged by writers who make pointed arguments and clear presentations. There’s a reason you sat down to write your article - it’s your job to make that reason resonate in the text.

Ask yourself this question whenever you submit a piece: Would I want to read this if I hadn’t written it?

If the answer is no, you may be in trouble. If the answer is yes, you’re off to a good start.
