He has foot work like Darius Boyd, power like Akuila Uate and blinding speed like Jharal Yow Yeh. But does anyone remember Kevin Gordon? The Gold Coast Titans’ winger is the forgotten man of 2011.

2011 is a season Gordon would rather forget. This was to be the year, after all, the 22 year old was to play his first representative football. Make no mistake about it, he would have.

It was just November last year that it became known that the Queenslanders were after the silky flanker following an impressive 2010 season which saw him top the Titans’ try scoring lists for a second consecutive year.

But Gordon’s 2011 season would come to a devastatingly abrupt end when he ruptured his ACL in round 2 against the Melbourne Storm at Skilled Park.

The season-ending knee injury would mean Gordon could only sit and watch as the likes of Uate and Yow Yeh passed him by on their way to superstardom.

"I was trying to stay positive until I got the scan and the doc said you have to get an operation," said a shattered Gordon at the time.

Gordon's season was stolen by injury

"It's disappointing but I've got to take it as it is, an opportunity to focus on something else other than footy until 2012. I want to try and get involved in the community as much as possible and re-arrange my goals.

"It's not about what life gives you, it's what you do about it. I can't do anything about what's already happened so I've just got to get on with it and look to the future and do what I can outside of footy."

Rehabbing a busted knee would be most young sportsman’s first priority and off course it has been. But through his work in the community, he has had to grow up pretty quickly. Gordon was named Titans’ Community Player of the Year.

The self proclaimed entrepreneur has his own website set up with clips from ’KGTV’ of his somewhat fledging music career. It is all tongue-in-cheek, but you can see Gordon has star power.

Jamal Idris may think he has cornered the Gold Coast market, but Gordon has the potential to be a bona fide superstar on the Sunset Strip. 

But 2012 is looking bright

Gordon’s mother was born in the Philippines to Chinese parents while his father is Scottish.

But best of all is he is a product of Coffs Harbour and will be ready to fire in 2012 for New South Wales if given the chance.

Uate and Yow Yeh may have passed him on their way to the top of the food chain for now. But if anyone is going to catch them, it’s the lighting fast, Kevin Gordon.

"They keep saying he's a local Gold Coast product, but he's not. He's from Coffs Harbour and he played here until he was 18" Gordon’s father Bob said last year.

"But he was so quiet, I couldn't even tell you who he supported in the NRL".

If anyone is going to make a noise in 2012, it is going to be the now not so quiet kid from Coffs.
