The glittering career of Darren Lockyer came to an end over the weekend with the Australians sending the champion out the right way with a 30-8 win in the Gillette Four Nations final against England at Elland Road.

England fought for everything they got and received a penalty try on half-time to impressive winger Ryan Hall. This was after Sam Thaiday touched down for the tourists.

The second half saw the real Australian Kangaroos stand up and it would be how England reacted to the onslaught which would decide the match and the Four Nations.

Tries to Jharal Yow Yeh, Greg Inglis and Johnathan Thurston swiftly took the match away from the home side who couldn’t match Australia’s determination.

Lockyer would get the final say in his play in rugby league with a cheeky little grubber kick hitting the post and bouncing back into his arms for a try he will never forget. Unfortunately, his attempt at conversion was a shocker and missed from in front.

"I'm really going to miss him. I've been lucky enough to play with Locky for a very long time and learned a hell of a lot from him and it was a privilege to play in his very last game.

"I've been kicking well and I think it is just one of those things. You get into a groove and that has been the case here," he said.

"I was a bit concerned. The physios ruled me out of training but, once I got running this morning, it felt good and I knew it would be right”.

"I would have been devastated to miss this, but it all worked out right."
