England Gunning For Four Nations

By Mike on Sat, 22/10.2011

Wales has beaten Ireland on Saturday night in Neath by 30 points to 6 as they prepare for the Gillette Four Nations tournement in the United Kingdom.

Andrew Gay, Christiaan Roets, Mark Lennon, Elliot Kear, Jordan James and Tyson Frizell scored tries for the Welsh while Ian Webster kicked three goals.

A late try to Tim Bergin was little consolation for the Irish who were never in the hunt.

"It was a good hit-out for them physically," said Wales coach Iestyn Harris.

"Some of the guys haven't played for up to six weeks and it takes a while to get into the flow of things. There are certainly some things to work on but I'm not too displeased. Hopefully we can improve a fair bit this week and tweak what we need to so we're ready for England."

Lebanon have impressively beaten Russia by 32 points to nil in Veraya.

The Cedars struggled with the freezing conditions but still managed six tries.

Lebanese coach David Baysarri was happy to get the win.

“It’s a win, but a lot of factors affected our performance. We had to endure freezing conditions, which we weren’t used to.”

Meanwhile England has defeated a gutsy French side 32-18 at Parc des Sports in Avignon.

Rangi Chase, Jack Reed and Chris Heighington were all impressive on debut with Chase named man of the match and Reed scoring a brilliant 70 metre try.

England took the lead after 90 seconds after Kevin Sinfield kicked a 40/20 in the opening set of the match. Reed quickly put his stamp on international football when he set up his winger Ryan Hall for the try.

Olivier Elima, Vincent Duport and Eloi Pellisier scored tries for the home side.

Jamaica are set to take on the USA Tomahawks in New Jersey with the winner qualifying for the 2013 World Cup.

The Jamaicans prepared for their shot at glory with a 20-6 victory over the South Africans in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

Jamaican head coach Dean Thomas knows the challenge is ahead of his team.

“The conditions were a bit of a leveller. We like a quicker tempo but the weather made that difficult. The South Africans put us under pressure and we gave away too many penalties and that really worked us hard, we’ve got to do better”.

“We’ve got three or days to prepare for America, it’s a great environment to play in and we are playing now for the right to take part in a World Cup.”
