Parramatta power past Broncos
Syndicated on Fri, 13/08.2010Parramatta kept its season alive with a 30-14 victory at Lang Park on Friday night that could see Brisbane squeezed out of the top eight.
The Eels were out to avoid their third straight loss, a result which would have all but ended their season, but they got on the board first and never trailed in an encounter that displayed plenty of running football.
The Broncos on the other hand could have virtually sealed their 20th consecutive finals appearance with a win, and the two points could have taken them as high as third spot, albeit with games still to play in round 23.
Instead, Ivan Henjak's men could find themselves out of the top half of the competition should Souths beat the Storm and the Warriors knock off Newcastle later in the weekend.
Luke Burt was perfect with the boot and scored the try that sealed victory for the visitors and made sure a finals berth is not out of reach, and Anthony Mitchell landed the final blow with a try on the full-time siren.
It was the perfect result to celebrate Eels captain Nathan Cayless' big night, as he surpassed Brad Fittler's record 216 games to become to most-capped skipper in competition history.

Not wanting to take anything
Not wanting to take anything away from their win the Eels got stuck in. The result may not have been so clear cut I suspect had The captain Darren lockyer been there to guide the Broncos.
