The Early Bird: 2010 Melbourne Cup Betting Preview

Eight horses won the cup over the last 10 years with Makybe Diva taking out three. Take out the two internationals and we have 6 six local runners. Interestingly besides Makybe Diva and Efficient the other four winners have all come through the Brisbane Winter carnival in their previous campaign

Best win/run prior to his cups campaign was 2nd in the 2009 QLD Derby. Was placed in the 2400m G3 Herbert Power, 2000m G3 Coongy & won the 2500m G3 Lexus as lead up runs to the cup.

Best win/run prior to his cup campaign was 1st in the 2400m G1 Brisbane Cup. Was unplaced in all lead up runs which included the 1800m G1 WFA Underwood, 2000m G1 WFA Yalumba, 2400m G1 Hcp Caulfield Cup & 2000m G1 WFA Mackinnon.

Zabeel / Refused the Dance
Best win/run prior to his cup campaign was 1st in the 2500m G1 Victorian Derby. Was unplaced in all lead up runs which included the 1400m G2 Memsie, 1600m G2 Feehan, 2000m G1 Turnbull & 2040m G1 Cox Plate.

Best win/run prior to cup campaign was 1st Japanese St Leger, 3rd Japan Cup & 1st Stayers Stakes. Came to Melbourne off a 5 month spell and was 3rd when first up in the Caulfield Cup.
