Boxing Champion Vince Cervi Shot Dead

Former Australian heavyweight champ Vince Cervi was shot dead by his one-time friend and fellow boxing associate in a struggle which followed arguments over property, the Supreme Court hears.

David Allen Curran, 47, has pleaded not guilty to murder and claims â€œVinnie'' Cervi was shot when the Rugers .22 semi-automatic pistol discharged as the men wrestled in the front yard of Mr Cervi's Dalgety St, Preston address in March 2009.

But prosecutor Andrew Tinney, SC, said a text message sent by Mr Curran to another friend, boxer Tim Bell, showed he was intent on confronting Mr Cervi over a dispute about moving out of a factory-come-gym and back into the Preston address which had been leased to Mr Curran.

â€œHi mate, I might have a full-on blue with Vinnie and a would-be mate (of) his ... they've been treating me like a goose,'' Mr Curran allegedly texted to Mr Bell just seven minutes before the 7.50pm shooting, Mr Tinney said.
