Robertson ready to push on

By Philip Oliver on Mon, 30/01.2012

2012 Masters champion Neil Robertson has insisted he won't fall into the same trap that he did following World Championship title in 2010. The Aussie picked up his maiden major title at the Crucible two years ago, however, Robertson failed to build on that momentum and struggled with his form during the rest of the year.

While having his first child in the wake of his World Championship success was never going to make it easy for Robertson to fully focus on his game, although the 29-year-old has admitted his new role as a father hasn't been the only reason for his disappointing form following that victory and people looking at the snooker odds should bear this in mind.

The Victorian revealed he had been guilty of resting on his laurels following his Crucible victory, something he is determined not to do after his recent Masters title, insisting he is determined to push on with his career now and establish himself as one of the true modern greats of the sport, something the sports betting suggests he can do.

"I completely took my foot off the pedal after the Worlds. I wasn't running on a lot of sleep because of the baby," said the world number four.

"That's all changed now and I've learnt from that."

"Not many players have won the worlds and the Masters. The UK Championship is the real focus for me now, apart from the world championships."

"My goal is to keep working hard and to become a multiple world, UK and Masters champion, just like many of the greats."

The test as to how much Robertson has worked since his Masters victory at Alexandra Palace will come up this week at the German Masters. The ranking tournament saw the Aussie suffer a disappointing first-round exit at last season's event and will be determined to have a more successful trip this time around.
