Bet On O'Conner To Be Wallabies Best At World Cup
By Philip Oliver on Thu, 28/07.2011James O'Connor is the key to Australia's hopes in the upcoming World Cup, according to former Wallaby powerhouse Toutai Kefu. The former centre knows what it takes to win a World Cup, after playing a key role in the Aussies' 1999 World Cup triumph.
Kefu has singled out O'Connor as the man capable of leading Australia to success again this year. The current Wallabies side is hardly short of talented youngsters but O'Connor has fast emerged as one of the most complete players in world rugby, despite being just 21. Anyone following the World Cup Rugby betting should keep an eye on him.
While more experienced players like Quade Cooper and Will Genia are usually the names that crop up when the subject of most talented Aussie players is tossed up, Kefu has named O'Connor has the best player in the country, in his fairly knowledgeable opinion.
"I think James O'Connor is the best footballer in Australia at the moment and he's only 21. He can do everything: kick, tackle, run and he's quick. He's absolutely got no fear. I just think he's a wonderful athlete, he said.
David Pocock and Kurtley Beale are the other highly talented youngsters that are capable of shining next month in New Zealand, in an Australia side full of hugely exciting players capable of winning matches.
The Wallabies bounced back from their 32-23 humbling at the hands of Samoa by thumping South Africa in their opening Tri-Nations match. While it was Genia who took home the man of the match award, it was O'Connor's performance that will have pleased head coach Robbie Dean more.
The winger set up two of his side's five tries, scoring one himself as well as kicking six goals to finish the match with 19 points. Those looking at the rugby union betting will have been impressed.
O'Connor will start next season with new team the Melbourne Rebels after deciding to leave the Western Force after three years. Before focusing on the Rebels however, the youngster will be looking to play a key role as Australia look to get their hands back on the Webb Ellis trophy.
