Ross ready to lead Scotland

By Philip Oliver on Wed, 25/01.2012

Ross Ford will lead Scotland into their upcoming Six Nations campaign after Kelly Brown was ruled out of the tournament with injury. Head coach Andy Robinson had originally selected Brown as the man to lead the squad into the tournament; however, the second-row sustained a nasty leg injury while playing for Saracens and will now miss the next few months.

Robinson moved quickly to name Brown's replacement, deciding Ford would be the man who leads his country out in their opening match of the tournament against England at Murrayfield. The 27-year old was an ever-present in Scotland's World Cup campaign last year and has been an ever-present in the front-row since making his debut in 2004. Anyone looking at the Six Nations Betting needs to bear this in mind.

Ford, who becomes the 112th man to lead Scotland, has admitted his delight at being given the captaincy, making it clear he will be looking to lead by example when the Six Nations gets under way against the old enemy. Anyone looking at the Sports Betting should remember this.

"It's a massive honour and privilege to captain your country. I'm really grateful to be given this chance to captain a team of so much potential," he said.
"For me, the big thing is leading from the front and actually showing a good example to the boys as well as backing it up with words."

"First and foremost is 'do it', do it for everybody to see, and that's the way I'll be looking to lead the team against England."

Beating England in their opening match would be the ideal start to the competition for Scotland. The English squad is undergoing dramatic changes and that will give Ford's men plenty of belief that they could well spring a surprise and claim a victory.
