Day 5 Wimbledon predictions
By Mark Skendaris on Fri, 25/06.2010Lost your shirt on the World Cup already? Here's my advice on getting back into the black with a few well place bets on day 5 at Wimbledon. Good Luck!

Hewitt (1.33) v Monfils (3.30)
I have to side with Hewitt here. He looks to be fit and healthy again and Monfils looks like an ideal match-up for him. The only way the Frenchman can win is if he blasts Hewitt off the court with numerous winners which I can’t see happening. The Aussie into the last 16.
Federer (1.02) v Clement (14.00)
The champ Federer looks a bit rusty but he relishes opponents like Clement. The veteran Frenchman has nothing in his game to worry Federer and a straight-set victory looks on the cards.
Djokovic (1.06) v Montanes (9.00)
The Serb will win this match. Montanes is a very poor player away from clay and Djokovic will be able to attack from the outset. The Spaniard has done well to win two rounds but that is where it will end. Nole in three sets.
Kohlschreiber (5.00) v Roddick (1.17)
These two have had many great battles in the past and it should be close once again. I think the German will push Roddick but his will often lets him down when getting into a winning position. The American loves Wimbledon and he will want his visit to last a little longer than round three. Roddick in four sets.
Lopez (2.15) v Melzer (1.70)
Probably the closest match of the day to call. Melzer was up and down against Troicki but eventually won through. Lopez has the serve and volley game that can upset the Austrian and I think he can cause a minor surprise. Look for it to go the distance with the Spaniard just edging it.
De Bakker (1.50) v Isner (2.60)
Where do we start? Can Isner back up his marathon effort against Mahut? If he is rested up he can, but I don’t think that will be the case. De Bakker is a quality player and when he gets it right he can trouble anyone. Isner will be in the match early, but look for the Dutchman to take full advantage of the American’s lack off fitness after that epic. De Bakker to make the third round.
Mayer (1.30) v Lu (3.50)
Mayer is playing well, wins over Cilic and Fish back that up. Lu is a handy type but he doesn’t string many wins together at this level and he has taken advantage of a soft draw. Mayer can mix his game up well which should be enough to see him get past Lu with relative ease. Mayer into the last 16.
Berdych (1.22) v Istomin (4.25)
Berdych is flying high, his best season in many years. He takes on Istomin who can cause a minor upset regularly, but I don’t think that will happen here. He battles against the top guys and Berdych doesn’t lose to players like Istomin these days with his new found confidence. He will have his eyes set on a potential quarterfinal match-up with Federer. Berdych comfortably.
Youzhny (1.22) v Mathieu (4.25)
Youzhny is playing as solid as ever and he should account for the Frenchman here. Both guys can lose it mentally if things aren’t going right and I think that’s what may happen to Mathieu in this match. Youzhny is one of the best all-rounders in the game and his clever skills will see him though.
Hanescu (1.85) v Brands (1.95)
Hanescu is a much-improved player and has had two solid wins so far this week. Brands is a bit of an unknown and he played well to bundle out Davydenko. He serves well but Hanescu is a better shotmaker and should have enough experience to get past the German is this one.
Best bets
I think De Bakker and Youzhny are good things, a short double can be a banker.
Suggested multi
Hewitt, Roddick, De Bakker, Mayer, Berdych, Youzhny (about 4.40)
Value
Lopez is the outsider but he has a great chance. Hanescu’s odds are curious, but he is a superior play to Brands.
