Despite sideshow of Nadal and Federer, Djokovic still the man to beat
By Philip Oliver on Thu, 19/01.2012Although Novak Djokovic has not exactly looked like a man on a mission to dominate the sporting headlines in Australia so far this year, he must quietly be thinking to himself that he can sit back and enjoy the entertaining sideshow of Nadal versus Federer while pondering the best ways to make sure that he has enough room in his trophy cabinet to accommodate a new shiny Australian Open trophy in a week or so.
Having managed to go from strength to strength over the past 12 months, upsetting the tennis odds left, right, and centre Djokovic has suddenly been able to make that crucial step up, becoming not only a good tennis player, but a great one, and a man now looking like he could be about to dominate the sport for the foreseeable future. People looking at the Betfair Australian Open Tennis odds should remember this.
If, as many tennis pundits expect, Djokovic manages to win the Aussie Open again this year, the victory could well set him on his way to have another magnificent year that sees him put together a magical unbeaten run that leaves his opponents in a spin and his fans in raptures, much as his win last year down under was a catalyst for exactly that. Fans of Tennis free bets should bear this in mind.
Having said all that, there is still a chance, as there always is with the Serb, that Djokovic will allow himself to get involved in petty squabbles, leaving himself open to the accusation that he has now reached his peak and can only go downhill over the next few years, which, if true, would be very sad to witness.
