Men's Wimbledon Quarter Final Selections
By Mark Skendaris on Wed, 30/06.2010It’s been upsets galore the last few days at the home of tennis. Will there be any shocks tonight in the men’s quarterfinal matches at Wimbledon? Find out here with TennisMan’s daily expert selections.
Federer (1.18) v Berdych (4.85)
The Swiss maestro faces his first real test at the Championships here against Berdych. The Czech powerhouse has been up and down so far and his win against Brands last start was scratchy. Fed dominated Melzer on Monday and I see Berdych suffering a similar result at the hands of the champ. Federer loves the centre stage and the pressure he will apply to Berdych will be too much for him too handle. The Swiss in straight sets.
Djokovic (1.14) v Lu (5.65)
The Serb showed some new found hardness battling past Hewitt while Lu produced the shock of the tournament by taking out Roddick. Djokovic will see this as a huge chance to take on Federer next in the semis so he won’t want to battle with Lu for too long. The Chinese Taipei youngster came up with the effort of his career last time out but it will not happen again here. Djokovic will have his measure with his stunning groundstrokes and claim the victory in three sets.
Tsonga (3.70) v Murray (1.28)
It’s hard to go past Murray in this one. The Scot has not dropped a set so far and he meets an underdone Tsonga here. The Frenchman has battled hard to get to the last eight which has been impressive, but Murray is on a roll. The home favourite will run rings around Tsonga if it turns into a baseline tussle and if it gets tight, Murray will have the whole country behind him to get him home. It may be close early, but the Scot should move into the final four with a straight-set victory.
Soderling (2.35) v Nadal (1.60)
An exciting contest awaits and I am leaning towards the Swede. Soderling’s form has been stunning while Nadal’s is questionable. The Spaniard has had some flat spots in many of his matches and if that happens here I cannot see him coming away with a victory. His knee injury is a concern and he looks much more uncertain of his game away from his beloved clay. The pair have stated they are not the best of friends so it will be a heated encounter, and I think Soderling can move into his first Wimbledon semifinal with a four-set win.
Best Bet:
It is always risky to take on Nadal, but I think he is ripe for the taking. Take Sodeling straight out.
Value Multi:
Federer, Djokovic and Murray look good things, they can all come away with 3-0 wins. Odds about $11.
