UFC 141- Battle of the giants
TheBigTip 36 95

Two of the biggest heavyweights in UFC history will come face-to-face on Friday night. 266 lbs Brock Lesnar matches up against 263 lbs Alistair Overeem, in what will be the Dutchman’s much anticipated UFC debut. The 31 year-old has a wealth of experience within the sport with over 40 fights; many coming as a light-heavyweight. In stark contrast, Lesnar will only be making his eighth professional MMA outing and the former WWE wrestler is coming off a TKO loss to Cain Velasquez. The 34...

Shields continues poor run in the UFC
TheBigTip 30 111

Saturday September the 17th, marked the lowest point in Jake Shields’ MMA career. The 32 year-old was brutally knocked out by wrestler Jake Ellenberger in the main event of the UFC Fight Night. Shields started his UFC career in October of last year and looked unconvincing against Danish stand-up fighter Martin Kampmann, just shading a split decision victory over his opponent. I, like many MMA analysts felt that Shields did not do enough to edge a decision in the October bout- the American’s...

He is set to face the biggest test to date for the much-coveted Middleweight belt. Silva will look to turn in a conclusive performance on Saturday following his last two unconvincing title defences. MMA- A passing fad?
120 435

'One of the fastest growing sports today' is a cliche commonly associated with MMA (mixed martial arts). Though viewing figures and gate receipts show how the sport is moving away from this cliche; at the same time cementing itself as one of the biggest ventures in sport today. The sport has shown an unprecedented growth since the introduction of the first high-profile MMA organisation in 1993 - UFC. The introduction of MMA juxtaposed with the gradual decline of the profile of Boxing...

One to Watch- Rory MacDonald
90 346

Currently the youngest fighter in the UFC at 21 years of age, it is fair to say that Rory MacDonald could be gracing the UFC octagon for a long while yet.Snapped up by the UFC in 2010, Rory has already had two fights in the octagon. He tasted success in his first encounter, after submitting his opponent, Mike Guymon, in the opening round. His second outing as a UFC fighter was against experienced mixed martial artist Carlos Condit and earned the ‘Fight of the Night’ award but ended in...

Pride of Australia ready for title shot
100 306

The pride of Greek and Australian MMA- George Sotiropoulos has the expectation of two nations on his shoulders. He has worked his way up the lightweight ladder efficiently, and seems to have done so without getting significant recognition.Although Sotiropoulos was a semi-finalist on American hit show, The Ultimate Fighter, where he competed at welterweight, very few expected him to make such small work of the fighters he has faced since moving down to the lightweight division. His biggest scalp...

What next for ‘The Dragon’?
131 247

Losing is not something Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida has become accustomed to throughout his MMA career, having previously put together a 16 win-streak. However his last two fights in the octagon have ended in disappointment, for two very different reasons. His first by a devastating knockout against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in the first round, which in an instant saw ‘The Dragon’s’ unbeaten record, pride and more importantly his UFC light-heavyweight belt taken away from him....
